Key Congressional Committees and Members
Being involved in the appropriations process is actually simple since, at its
most basic working level, the Appropriations Committees function like any other
community: strong relationships built on solid ground will yield high dividends.
These relationships are built - just like any other - by devoting time
and energy to meeting with key Appropriators and Members of Congress in order
to build interest and trust in our issues.
In the short-term, these efforts will help address the financial needs of the
environmental education (EE) field. Over time, these same efforts will build the political infrastructure
and presence that EE so strongly needs. Together, these efforts will inject
environmental literacy into the national dialogue, thereby positioning EE to
gain the influence and resources necessary for closing the environmental literacy
gap.
Every member of the House Appropriations Committee serves on one or more of
the Committee's ten subcommittees. Similarly, each member of the Senate
Appropriations Committee serves on one or more of the Senate Committee's
twelve subcommittees. Each subcommittee maintains budgetary jurisdiction over
a precise grouping of federal agencies and programs.
